He is
37 SC SC SC and works in a
cotton mill. His wife Mamie Lee Burnette is 31, and they have Rudell a daughter 13, James Franklin 10 and Harold Lee 1
all SC. He is a son of Leander Putman and Sarah ‘Sallie’ Long from Laurens
County. This is the first time since 1900 that he has appeared.
He is
22 SC SC SC and a salesman
for Standard Oil Company. He is wife Alma Robertson is 22 SC and they have
James Jr. 1 SC. James Cornelius is a son of Thomas Alexander Putman and Blanche
Watson. He was here with them in 1920. His folks are listed right below living
around here, but indexed as Pulman. I don’t find any of them in 1940. In 1950
Tom and Blanche are in Greenville.
He is
56 SC and his wife Blanche Watson is 56
SC and they still have Margaret 18 SC with them. He is a son of Cornelius
Putman and Margaret Peden. He was born in Laurens
County December 6, 1873. He married Ida Abbott June 2, 1894 and had the son
Thomas Ansell with her. They were in Greenville in 1900. Ida died a few years
later, and he then married Blanche Watson in 1905. Blanche was born October 28,
1874 and will die August 18, 1968.
He is
53 NC NC NC and widowed. He
works in a cotton mill. Augustus Lee is a son of William Hambly
Putman and his first wife Margaret Katherine Evans. He was born in Cherryville,
Gaston County March 16, 1877 and will die back there February 22, 1963. He
married Mary Jane Cleo Black and was there till she died in 1923 and then he
came here. He will be here in 1940 and his son John William and family will be
with him.

70 SC and heads a large Negro family.
This is
a huge black family.
She has
several sisters and they are Negroes.
ANDREW J. (JAMES) PUTNAM Charleston, Charleston County
He is
45 GA, his wife Grace Rebecca Merchant is 25 SC and they have Andrew (James
Andrew) 3 SC, Mary 2 SC and Grace 5/12 SC. He is a foreman at an oil refinery.
Something will happen as by 1935 Grace has married Ernest Harrison and they are
in St. Michaels Township in Charleston County. Andrew first shows up in
Jacksonville, Florida in 1910 living with his mother Ida Wilson also from
Georgia. They are there still in 1920. But haven’t figured out his daddy yet.
But Rand Putnam found a thing on Ancestry that has him as a son of Andrew
Thomas Putman and Mary Harton. That Andrew is a son
of Willis Putman and Amanda Thompson of Hall County Georgia. They were living
in the city of Brunswick, Georgia in the 1880 Census. He served as a messenger
for Governor Brown in Atlanta and then joined the Georgia Infantry in 1863.
After the War, he settled in Brunswick, Georgia. He married Mary B. Harton of Putnam County Georgia on February 1, 1861. He
owned a store in Brunswick. Mary died in 1880 and he married Viola in 1881. He
will die before 1900. That’s why I can’t find the Andy living with that Andy.
Just not sure.
This is
a very large Negro family.
He is
47 NC NC NC and owns a
farm. His wife Bertha Ray McSwain is 40 SC and they have Leonard 5 SC, Jack 3
SC and Bessie 1 SC. He is a son of Anzie McFee Putman
and Harriet McIntyre from Cleveland County North Carolina. Bertha is wife
number 3. He was briefly married to Rebecca Jane Willmon
from 1909-1911. She died and he married Minnie Florence Grigg who died in March
1920 back in North Carolina. He married Bertha two months later in July 1920.
He took off on the kids from his second marriage. They are back in Cleveland
County North Carolina with their grandparents the Griggs. Bertha will die in 1946
and he’ll marry Ruby Evans in 1949.

Harland Durant Putnam 22 SC SC SC
and single. He works in a cotton mill. He was next door in York County in 1920
with his re-married mother Hattie and said he was NC NC
NC then. Hattie Rippy was
married to John S. Putnam who died in Cleveland County North Carolina October
18, 1908. He will marry Ruth Towne McAbee and be here in 1940. Then they will
live in Spartanburg and then Greenville.
ROBERT A. (ALEXANDER)
PUTMAN Cherokee, Cherokee County
He is
55 NC NC NC and an
electrician in the powerhouse. His wife Willie Rosalie Rippy
is 50 NC and they have Norris R. 20 NC, Artie 18 SC, Clara E. 14 SC. Also here
is their married daughter Flora Moss 23 NC and her son Joseph 6 TN. He is a son
of Anzie McFee Putman and Harriet McIntyre from
Cleveland County North Carolina. He’ll be here till he dies in 1950. They are
here in 1935 and 1940 and so are Flora and Joe.
He is
40 NC NC NC and owns his
farm. His wife Sudie B. Foster is 34 SC and they have Allie 15, William F. 13,
Flora 11, Lee T. (Jr.) 9, Eugene W. 7, Catherine 5 and Janelle 4/12 all born
SC. He is a son of Franklin A. Putnam and Eliza Allen from Cleveland County.
They were here in 1920. He’ll be around here till he dies in 1947. He was born
April 2, 1890 and died November 13, 1947. He married Sadie B. Foster on
December 7, 1911. She was born December 23, 1895 and died in Shelby, North
Carolina on April 10, 1990 at age 94.

cotton mill. His wife Frances Victoria Ramsey is 41 SC and they have Ralph C.
16 SC, John H. 13 SC, Margie C. 7 SC and Billie E. 6 SC. He is a son of William
Alexander Putnam and Zulia Ellen Bridges from North Carolina. George will die
here December 12, 1960.

wife Katherine Rebecca Parris is 43 SC. They have Alfred William 18 SC, James Brodus Jr. 15 SC and Lloyd J. 7 SC. He is a son of William
Alexander Putnam and Zulia Ellen Bridges from North Carolina. James will die
here September 21, 1930.

Louise Best is 20 and they have Charlie 3 and Harold D. 9/12 all SC. They have
been married 3 years. He is a son of George William Putnam and was listed as
Parnell in 1910 and William P. here in 1920.

48 NC NC NC and a weaver in
a cotton mill. His wife Minnie R. Black is 44 NC and they have James 9 NC,
Wilburn 6 NC and Burgess 5 NC. He is a son of James Craton Putman and Amanda
Wesson from Cleveland County North Carolina. He was there in Charlotte in 1920
and came here a few years ago. He will die here in 1936.
She is
34 NC NC NC single and
boarding. She works in a cotton mill.

farm. His wife Annie Belle Barr is 46 and they have Plumer (Tyler in 1920) 19
and Roy F. 5 all SC. He is a son of William Dogan Putman and Sarah Knight from
Laurens County. Plumer was here in 1920 and will be till he dies May 29, 1935.
She is
18 SC and says she’s married. She lives with her folks Thomas and Mammie Bailey
and no husband is to be seen.

on the railroad. His wife Lucy Rose Self is 34 and they have B. Hugh Jr. 15,
Mary Jane 9 and William T. 4 all SC. Lucy’s widowed father Ernest Self 70 SC is
with them. There is also Julia Husbands 63 SC and single listed as an aunt.
They were here in 1920. He is a son of Bluford B. Putman and Mary H. Brown from
Laurens County.

at a funeral home. His wife Elizabeth Ruth McCall is 52 and they have Francis
M. 18, Helen E. 14, James C. (Clyde) 12, Roy W. 10 and Sarah E. 7 all SC. He is
a son of Robert and Emma Putman from Laurens County. His widowed mother was
with them here in 1920.

a farm. Frances Ella Harris his wife is 58, and they have Peggy 22, Richard T.
19, Barnwell 16 and Doree 13 all SC. He is a son of
Robert Putman and Sarah Emma Willis from Laurens County. He was first married
to a Della who died in 1891. Then to Lillie Pryer who
died in 1899. In 1900, George was living alone in Greenville County and the two
eldest girls were living with their grandmother Sarah Pryor. He married Ella
about 1901 or 1902. They were in Abbeville County in 1910 and 1920.

cotton mill. His wife Willie C. is 22 SC and they have Dorothy 1 SC. His
brother Ernest L. 23 SC is with him. He is a son of Robert and Daisy Putman
from Laurens County. They are here in 1940 with 6 more kids and probably more
on the way.
He is 44 SC NC SC and is a storekeeper. He says he is
married but is alone. He is a son of Charles Franklin Putman and Elizabeth Jane
Kendrick from Cleveland County North Carolina. He was married there in 1920
with two kids. Don’t know where the rest are now, but they are all in Shelby,
Cleveland County in 1940.

Minnie 42 SC. He is a son of Irby Duncan Putman and Laura Ball from Laurens
County. He and Minnie were here in 1920.

B. 20 and they have Edna 3 and Margaret 1 all SC. Then there is a Libi M. 18 SC single and listed as sister in law? Beats me.

farmlands. His wife Tammie Chiles is 32 and they have Claude Jr. 4 all SC. He
is Claude Farrow Putman a son of John Harrison Putman and Lula Farrow of
Greenville County. He was born here in 1895 and married Tommie in 1925. They
are also listed in Greenville City.
He is
27 SC SC SC and rents
farmland. His wife Fannie Mae Abercrombie is 26 and they have Dorothy 6 SC. He
is a son of Lawrence Austin Putman and Maggie Thompson and was born here
September 22, 1902 and will die here September 8, 1984. Fannie was born
December 9, 1902 and died January 12, 1993.

24 his wife Lillian Armstrong is 22 and they have Mary C. 2 5/12 SC. Alphus James is a son of Lawrence Austin Putman and lives
on the family farm. He was born in 1905 and died December 22, 1988. He married
Lillian Armstrong in Greenville County on May 22, 1926.

63 SC, his second wife Anna Randall is 58 SC and their daughter May 34 SC is
still single and at home. James was born September 29, 1866. He married
Margaret Bryson in 1884 and she died March 5, 1888. He then married Anna
Randall in 1891. Anna was born October 17, 1870. She was a daughter of Benjamin
Pope Randall and Henrietta Rebecca Snow. In 1900 and 1910 he is in Greenville
County South Carolina and in 1920 in Abbeville County. James died in Greenville
January 10, 1952. Anne died November 6, 1949. May the daughter was born
November 20, 1894, and died January 17, 1979. She never married. Their son
James Benjamin Putman is now married in Oaklawn, Greenville County.

farm. His wife Lillie Farrow is 60 SC. He is a son of Cornelius Putman and
Margaret Peden, and was born in Laurens County
September 9, 1871. He married Eula Margaret Farrow June 25, 1891. They have
been here in Greenville County since the 1890s. Lula was born March 4,
1869 and will die February 22, 1958. John will die here March 9, 1944.

farm. In fact two of his kids, James and William live here and work the farm
too. His wife Maggie S. Thompson is 52 and John G. (Gideon) 19 SC is at home.
He is a son of John Abner Putnam and Elizabeth Cheek from Laurens County. He
was born December 15, 1873. He married Maggie S. Thompson about 1896. She was
born October 18, 1877 and died here December 10, 1963. He died August 22, 1959.

55 SC SC SC and widowed. He
has his son William 30 SC with him. This listing is screwed up. He should be 65
and his son 40. Perry’s wife Rosa Etta Pearson has died. But William was
married in 1920 with 4 kids that are nowhere to be seen. Perry is a son of
Alexander Putman and Elvira Brown from Laurens County. He has been here in
Greenville County since the early 1900s though.

Edward 3 SC. He is a son of John Walter Harrison Putman and Lula Margaret
Farrow of Greenville County. He was born December 5, 1892 and will die here in
Greenville February 23, 1949. Inez was born August 27, 1890 and will die May
25, 1987. They are here in 1940.

21 SC and his wife Hester Simms is 22 SC. He is a son of Lawrence and Maggie
Putman and lives on their farm. He was born October 25, 1908 and died April 19,
1989. He married Hester Simms November 24, 1927. She was born in 1908 and died
in 1997.

Nona Welborn is 16 SC. They live with her folks Frank and Mary Welborn. He was
born September 15, 1908 and will die here July 29, 1969. He is a son of Orlando
C. Putman from Davidson County North Carolina where he was 1 year old and born
SC. Orlando died and Carroll isn’t found in 1920. Carroll is of the books in
1940, but appears in 1950 Carrol is buried in Cannon Memorial Park here in
town. Nona was born April 11, 1913 and will die here in Fountain Inn April 14,
2006. She is a daughter of Frank W. and Maisy Welborn.
He is
Arnold Evert Putman 28 MN NY WI and a teacher at Greenville Woman’s College,
and later at Furman University. His wife Alice Parsons is 24 MN and they have
William A. 1 GA. He is a son of William A. Putman and Mary M. O’Hearn from
Duluth, Minnesota. He was home there in 1910 and 1920. He was born December 1,
1901 and will die here in Greenville May 16, 1983. Alice was born June 8, 1905
and will die here January 19, 1993. They are here in 1940 with 2 more kids.

estate dealer. His wife Tommie Chiles is 31 and they have Evelyn 11, Sarah 10
and Helen 5 all SC. He is also listed earlier. He is a son of John Harrison
Putman and Lula Farrow from here.

cotton mill as do most of his kids. His wife Annie is 48 and they have at home
Mary 16 and Jack 11 all SC. He is a son of Robert and Sarah Emma Putman from
Laurens County.

32 SC and they have James E. Junior 8 SC and Charles 6 SC. He was here with his
mother Sallie in 1920. Sallie Ann Higgins was married to Isaac Andrew Putman
who was a son of William Putman and Nancy Spurlin
from Cleveland County North Carolina. They were in Rutherford County North
Carolina in 1910 and not indexed right in 1900. Isaac was born February 28,
1848 and died in Rutherford County May 26, 1906. Sallie his mom was born in
1859 and died in Rutherford County July 9, 1928.

Whitmore his wife is 47, Leon 19, Allen 17, Clyde 12, and Jack 10 all SC. He
works in a cotton mill as do his sons. He is a son of William Wister Putman and
Evelyn Allen from here.
She is
65 SC and widowed her son Ernest is 20 SC and her widowed daughter Sunnie
Porter is 48 SC. Evelyn Allen was married to William Wister Putnam. He died
here a few weeks ago on February 2, 1930. Evelyn will die here May 24, 1939.
He is
72 SC SC SC and widowed as
he was in 1920. He is living with his now married daughter Ludie Stepp 26 SC
and her husband William. He will die here himself shortly on May 27, 1930. Irby
Duncan is a son of William and Elizabeth Putman from Laurens County. He was
married to Laura Ball who died in 1919. He will die here himself very shortly
on May 27, 1930.

works in a cotton mill. Belle Foster his wife is 40 and they have Odell 20,
Wilton 17, Evelyn 15, Otis 12, Raymond 9, Margaret 6 and David 4/12 all SC. He
is a son of William Wister Putman and Evelyn Allen from here in Greenville.
William Jesse Putman was born December 11, 1887. He married Belle Foster March
24, 1910. They are in Greenville for the rest of their lives. Belle was born
June 30, 1885 and died in Greenville December 9, 1949.
He is
27 SC and his wife Nellie Young is 27 SC and they have John C. Jr. 5 SC. They
have been married nine years. He is a salesman for a furniture company. He is a
son of John Harrison Putman and Lola Farrow from here. He was born October 16,
1902 and died November 3, 1970. Nellie was born January 30, 1909 and died July
17, 1988. Both are buried in Cannon Memorial Park in Fountain Inn, Greenville
County.
She is
48 SC and single. Her mother Margaret F. Putman 87 and widowed is with her.
Margaret Peden was the wife of Cornelius Putman. She
was widowed here with Maggie in 1920. She was born February 15, 1843 and will
die here in a few months on December 10, 1930.

Lee Massey is 39 and they have Mary E. 19, Sam 17, Catherine 15, Paul 12,
William J. 9, Florence 7, Robert L. Jr. 4 and Betty Jo 4/12 all SC. He is a son
of William Wister Putman and Evelyn Allen from here in Greenville.

salesman for cotton goods, what else. His wife Nellie Pollard Morris is 37 VA
and they have Jack B. (Butler) 18 SC, H. (Hazel) Virginia 15 SC a twin of
William M. (Morris) 15 SC. Then her widowed mother Addie 58 VA is still with
them. He is a son of William Butler Putman and Mattie Dell Garnett from Laurens
County. He’ll be here all his life and die September 14, 1974. Mattie will die
in Greenville February 21, 1982.

Ruby Sommerall or something 19 SC. He is Samuel
William Putman a son of Alexander Putman and Elvira Brown. He was at home in
Youngs, Laurens County in 1910 and married to Kate Wilson in Pickens County in
1920.

pharmacist in a drug store. His wife Myrtle is 34 and they have Samuel R. Jr. 9
and Myrtle 5 all SC. He is a son of Samuel Harrison Putman and Cittoria
Charlotte Rose from Laurens County. He was born February 27, 1893, and died in
Greenville September 15, 1981. He was at home in 1920 and got married a month
or so later.

for auto supplies. His wife Virginia Galloway is 30 and they have a daughter
Anselyn 4 SC. He is a son of Thomas Alexander Putnam and Ida Abbott from here
in Greenville County.

Mary Frances Parks He was born
November 10, 1858 and married Nancy Cornelia Boyd on January 6, 1881. She was a
daughter of Isaac Boyd and Angelina Pitts and was born February 12, 1859 and
died July 10, 1927. They were in Laurens County through 1910 and in Greenville
County in 1920. He was widowed in Greenville in 1930 and will be widowed back
in Laurens County in 1940. He will die in Greenville on December 1, 1943.

a grocery store. His wife Ella Mae Darnell is 22 SC and they have Wallace 2 NC.
Also here is her widowed mother Elmira Darnell 69 SC. He is William Thomas
Putman a son of William Wister Putman and Evelyn Allen from here. He was born
November 29, 1901 and will die in Greenville November 14, 1985. Ella is a
daughter of W. B. and Laura Darnell. She was born here February 8, 1908 and
will die here September 27, 1970. The son Wallace was born in Canton County
North Carolina November 6, 1925 and will die September 7, 2004.

farm. His wife Gladys J. Wynn is 30 SC and they have Robert W. (Wynn) 1 SC. He
is a son of James Robert Putman and Anna Randall. He was at home with them in
1900 and 1910 here in Greenville County and they were all in Abbeville County
in 1920. He was born March 14, 1897 and died February 7, 1958. He married
Gladys Wynn. She was born March 2, 1898 and died October 13, 1946.

all SC. He is a son of Bluford Putman and Mary Brown from Laurens County. He
was born July 20, 1867. His wife is Anna Riddle. She was born March 15, 1880
and will die in Clinton July 10, 1945. William will die here February 27,
1957. They were here in 1910 and 1920
and will be in 1940.

automobile salesman. His wife Olive is 33 and they have two daughters, Ellen 12
and Robbie 1 SC. He is a son of Perry Putman and Rose Pearson from here. He was
born May 8, 1892 and die February 25, 1945. They were in Greenville in 1920.
Olive was born in 1896 and will die here in 1938. Arthur is widowed in
Greenville in 1940.

now 85 SC SC SC and his
wife Eliza Jane Cheek is 87 SC. She will die shortly on May 25, 1930, and he
will die here February 26, 1935 after a long illness according to his obituary.
He is a son of Simeon William Putman and Catherine Owens and was born here
April 18, 1845. Eliza Jane was born February 4, 1844.

farm. His wife Minnie Irene Chandler is 29 and they have Roy 5, Sara 3 and
Ellen 2 all SC. He is a son of Lawrence Austin Putnam and Maggie Thompson. He
was born here and married Irene in Greenville in 1922.
She is
82 SC and widowed. Her daughters Amanda S. 59 and Daisy P. 47 still single are
with her. Mary H. Brown is the widow of Bluford Putnam from here. He died back
in 1910. Mary will make it till February 6, 1933.

Putman and Clarinda Woods and was born here October 29, 1879. He will die here
June 18, 1937. Anna is widowed here in 1940 and in Greenville, Greenville
County in 1950 Her daughter Marie Frances will still be with her in 1940 and
1950. Anna was born here February 22, 1884 and will die here September 28,
1958. She is a daughter of Robert and Emma Woods from here in Dial.
He is
48 SC SC SC and owns and
drives a taxicab. Lizzie Cooper his wife is 48, Louise 19, Jerry B. 18, Mary L.
15, Clyde 12, Callie 9, Fred 6 and Edna 5 all born SC. He is a son of Jeremiah
Young Putnam and Clarinda Riddle and was born here September 14, 1882 and will
die here January 15, 1951. Elizabeth was born September 23, 1882 and died
December 10, 1948. Both are buried at Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton, Laurens
County.

wife Janette 29 SC. He was married to Eva Maude Thompson up through the 1920
census. She died February 21, 1927. He is a son of John Abner Putman and Eliza
Jane Cheek. They are in Clinton, Laurens County in 1935 and Dials by 1940.
He is 50 SC SC SC and has a wife Pearl Higgins 40 NC and an adopted son Billie 6 SC. Pearl’s father Hardy Higgins 73 NC is with them. Albert is a son of Peydon or Peden Putman and Nancy Jane ‘Nannie’ Burns and was born here in Laurens November 5, 1879 and will die here October 2, 1937. He was with his folks here in 1900, and somewhere in 1910 and 1920. Pearl is widowed here in 1940. She is a daughter of Hardy Higgins or maybe Huggins and Cornelia Adeline Cannon and was born in North Carolina March 27, 1890 and will die here in Laurens in June 1979. Pearl will marry J. H. Ball here on September 21, 1944.

He is a son of William Butler Putman and Martha Garrett. He was born August 4,
1889. He married Ellen Alberta 'Bert' Burns. Bert was born October 28, 1893.
She was a daughter of Albert Burns and Ellen McAteer, and a granddaughter of Kisiah Putnam and Robertson Burns. Kisiah
was Simeon William's sister. She was still living in Laurens and driving her

died August 26, 1971 and Mildred died March 18, 1972.

on March 24, 1930. The census was officially listed as April 10, but was taken
earlier. Homer’s occupation was none as he was sick, and Nannie was listed as a
farmer. Then the compiler put WD over the M after her name but for some reason
left Homer’s name intact even though he was dead. Nannie will be here till
March 21, 1965.

first shows up in Jacksonville, Florida in 1910 living with his mother Ida
Wilson also from Georgia. They are there still in 1920. Not really sure
who Andrew’s dad was. The family sheet I found doesn’t know either.

single. He was in New Orleans in 1935. He is Douglas G. 3rd and a
son of Douglas G. Putnam and Lula Hurdle and was born May 22, 1911. This line
goes back to yet another Douglas Putnam and Mary Ann Hildreth from Marietta,
Ohio and directly back to General Israel Putnam from Massachusetts.

Bertha is wife number 3. He was briefly married to Rebecca Jane Willman from
1909-1911. She died and he married Minnie Florence Grigg who died in March 1920
back in North Carolina. He married Bertha two months later in July 1920. He took
off on the kids from his second marriage. They are back in Cleveland County
North Carolina with their grandparents the Griggs. Bertha will die in 1946 and
he’ll marry Ruby Evans in 1949.

Carolina December 18, 1904 and he died there October 18, 1908. John was a son
of Joseph Devaney Putnam and Roxanna Jane Weathers and was born in Shelby,
Cleveland County North Carolina November 21, 1907 and will die in Simpsonville,
Greenville County South Carolina November 13, 1971. His wife Ruth Towne McAbee
was born in Cleveland County May 23, 1908 and will die there September 28,
1987.

1914. He married Martha Susan Montjoy about 1880. Mattie was born March 22,
1862 and will die October 12, 1953 and be buried back in Laurens County.

He was born in 1901. In 1920 he is listed as Grier Putnam and is married to Carrie Holcombe. He is living then with his married sister Mammie or Memamie Blanton in Cherryville, Gaston County. Sometime after 1920 he changed his name to Bill Anderson. He was not the best person. Spent some time in Prison in Illinois and here. Family still dislikes him 50 years after his death. Carrie was born in 1897 and will die in 1965. He will die in Greenville, December 7, 1961.

He then married Harriet Anna Randall in 1891. Anna was born October 17, 1870. She was a daughter of Benjamin Pope Randall and Henrietta Rebecca Snow. In 1900 and 1910 they are in Greenville County South Carolina and in 1920 in Abbeville County. I don’t find any of them in 1930. But, I am sure they were here in 1930. James will die in Greenville January 10, 1952. Anne will die November 6, 1949. The daughter May was born November 20, 1894 and never married. She will die here January 17, 1979.

and Robertson Burns. Kisiah was Simeon William's
sister. She was still living in Laurens and driving her 1962 Chevy in 1993.
Arthur will die in Atlanta, Georgia December 7, 1998. Bert will die July 1,
1999 and is buried along side of Arthur at the Highland Home Baptist Church
Cemetery in Gray Court, Laurens County.

born February 1, 1921 and will die in Laurens County August 6, 1998. James will
die here in Gray Court February 13, 2001. They are in Gainesville, Florida in
1945 while he is still in the Army.

He is 55 SC SC SC and owns a drug store. His wife Lillie Martin is 45 SC and they now have Oscar B. 23 SC, Robert H. 20 SC, Louise 18 SC, James 16 SC, Margaret 11 SC and David 9 SC. Also here is their married son Samuel Franklin 27 SC, his wife Annie McPherson 29 SC and their kids Samuel Franklin Junior 6 SC and Barbara Jean 3 SC. He is a son of Samuel Harrison Putnam and Cittoria Rose. He was born April 26, 1886. He owns Putnam Drug Store in Laurens and will operate it into the 1950s. He will die January 17, 1956. Lillie was born May 3, 1893 and she’ll die in Laurens November 28, 1954.

She is 49 NC widowed and has a son William 15 SC. Ella Pearl
Higgins was married to Albert L. Putman who died here in 1937. She is a
daughter of Hardy Higgins or maybe Huggins and Cornelia Adeline Cannon and was
born in North Carolina March 27, 1890 and will die here in Laurens in June
1979. Pearl will marry J. H. Ball here on September 21, 1944. Albert was a son
of Peydon Putman and Nancy Jane ‘Nannie’ Burns and
was born here in Laurens November 5, 1879 and died here October 2, 1937.
He is 49 SC SC SC and widowed since his wife Bertha Wade died January 9, 1934. He was working in a cotton Mill in Greenville in 1920 and in 1930 and now runs a grocery store. He is a son of Samuel Harrison Putnam and Cittoia Rose from here in Laurens County. His brother John runs a drug store here too. Roy will later marry Mildred Fuller. Roy will die August 26, 1971 and Mildred will die here March 18, 1972.

He was with his brother Roy in 1920. He was single in Waycross, Georgia in 1930. He married Frances Thomason in the early 1930s.

April 6, 1890 and will die here September 3, 1963. Jane was born here March 26,
1903 and will die in Clinton, Laurens County March 16, 2000.
He is 80 SC SC SC and widowed living by himself. He is a son of James Perry Putman and Mary Frances Parks He was born November 10, 1858 and married Nancy Cornelia Boyd on January 6, 1881. She was a daughter of Isaac Boyd and Angelina Pitts and was born February 12, 1859 and died July 10, 1927. They were in Laurens County through 1910 and in Greenville County in 1920. He was widowed in Greenville in 1930 and widowed back here by 1935. He will die in Greenville on December 1, 1943.

a large Negro family. His wife is Bertha. Earl was born July 10, 1889 and died
August 3, 1973. Bertha was born October 3, 1894 and died January 23, 1952.
These Negro families are all buried in the Center Rabun Baptist Church
Cemetery. They were here in 1930.

husband Graves C. Gwinn 56 SC. Martha Susan Montjoy was married to Stephen
Perry Putnam in 1880 and they were here in Laurens County till he died July 9,
1914. Mattie was born March 22, 1862 and will die October 12, 1953. They
were in Laurens County through the 1910. Then after he died Mattie and the kids
were in Greenville County. By 1930 through 1935 at least, she is with her sons
in Cleveland County North Carolina. They are both buried in the Patterson Chapel Methodist
Church Cemetery in Enoree, Laurens County. Nora was born March 15, 1887
and will die in 1966.

married to Homer Dixon Putman here since 1910. He was a son of Jeremiah Young
Putman and Callie Riddle form here in Youngs. He was born here July 19, 1877

die here March 21, 1965. Carrie Lou was born October 25, 1912 and will die in
Gray Court, Laurens County March 1, 1998. She will marry Clarence Lester
Britton in Woodruff, South Carolina March 21, 1946.

and Patsy 1 SC. Al and Gracie both work in a cotton mill like most everyone in
South Carolina. His widowed mother Pearl 55 SC is with them too. Pearl Lindsey
has been married to Elias Napoleon Bona parte Putman here since the early
1900s. He was a son of Martin Toliver Putman from Rutherford County North
Carolina. He was born there May 2, 1880 and was here in the later 1890s and
married Pearl about 1902. He died here in October 1936. Pearl was born August
16, 1884 and will die here May 6, 1944. I don’t have any more info on Alfred

Elbert is a son of William Ebenezer Putman Jr. and was born here. He and
Pauline work in a cotton mill. They are in Bay County Florida in 1945, then
back here in 1950.

at a Cotton Mill. His wife Lola Montez Price is 46 SC and they have Ronald 16
SC and James T. 14 SC. His son Carl Eben is 20 SC and
his wife Margaret Burdette 19 GA. They will split and she will be married to
Benjamin Savage in Georgia in 1950 and Carl will be here and married to Montine
Vickery. Also here is his widowed mother Mary 77 SC. He is a son of William
Ebenezer Putman Jr. and Mary Ann Compton. He was born in Georgia, but has been
here since 1900. The son James Thomas became a minister and married Runett Rhodes and they had James Dean, Wayne, Greg and
Donna. James died in Walhalla, South Carolina April 18, 2006 at age 80.

William Ebenezer Junior and has been here since the late 1890s. He is 46 GA SC SC and works at the Newry cotton mill. His wife Nezzie Mae is 46 SC and they have Audrey L. 18 SC still at
home. Willie was born in Georgia in 1893 and will die here in November 1976. Nezzie is a daughter of Thomas Jefferson Stephens and Lou
Belle Miller. She was born in Georgia December 25, 1893 and will die in Newry,
Oconee County in September 1984. He is a son of William Ebenezer Putman and
Mary Ann Crumpton from here, and a grandson of James Hamilton Putman. They are
in Newry, Oconee in 1950.
MARTHA PUTNAM Tugaloo Township, Oconee County
She is
79 SC and widowed and living with her daughter Carrie 55 SC and husband Jolly
Turner 50 SC. Martha Jane Harden is the widow of Thomas Fowler Putnam and they
were in Cherokee County in 1920. Thomas was a son of James Hamilton Putnam and
Susan Hancock from here in Oconee County. He died here in Tugaloo June 11,
1929. She was living in Pickens County with Carrie and her family in 1930 and
then here by 1935. Martha was born August 8, 1859 and will die here February 6,
1946.
MARGARET PUTMAN Orangeburg, Orangeburg County
She is
22 SC single and lodging in a hotel. She is a public school teacher and that’s
why she is single and always will be. In those days being a spinster was a
requirement it seems. When I was in grade school in the 1940s all my women
teachers were single all their lives. Guys were married but never gals. She is
a daughter of Arthur Donald Putnam and Ellen Alberta Burns from Laurens,
Laurens County and was home there through 1935.
She is
now 53 SC and widowed since her husband Samuel died. Her married daughter
Mollie 26 NC and her husband Porter Dobson 36 SC are living with her as they were
in 1930 and will be in 1950. Samuel William Putman was a son of Alexander
Putman and Elvira Brown from Laurens County. He was born February 18,
1881, when the family was
briefly in North Carolina in the 1880s. He just died here August 8, 1938.

(?) is 28 SC and they have Loretta 2 SC. Barnwell Harris Putnam is a son of
George Edward Putman and his second wife Frances Ella Harris from Greenville
and then Laurens County and then Florence County in 1930 and that’s where
Barnwell was in 1930 too. He was born March 22, 1913 and will die in
Columbia in May 1981.
She is
a patient at the South Carolina State Hospital for the Insane. She is 43 US.
She was here in 1920 and 1930. She is a daughter of Jordan David Putman and
Lester Ann Poston from Cleveland County North Carolina through 1900. The family
was in Chester County South Carolina in 1910.
ELIZABETH PUTMAN Columbia, Richland County
She is
38 SC married and a patient in the South Carolina State Hospital for the
Insane. She was in Greenville in 1935. Mary Elizabeth Griffin was married to
the following John Carl Putman before she was committed. She was born July 1,
1902 and will die November 3, 1970.
JOHN CARL PUTMAN Columbia, Richland County
He is
37 SC married and in a hotel. He is a wholesale candy salesman and lives over
in Greenville with his wife Nellie Young and the kids. He is a son of John
Walter Harrison Putman and Lola Margaret Farrow from Greenville. He was born
there October 16, 1902 and will die there November 3, 1970. Nellie was born
January 30, 1909 and will die July 17, 1988. Both are buried in Cannon Memorial
Park in Fountain Inn, Greenville County.

SC and widowed. Her daughter Elizabeth is 21 SC. They are in a boarding house.
Kansas Barnes had been married to Pleasant Holcomb Putman in Pinckney, Union
County in 1930 and Spartanburg before that. He was a son of James Monroe Putman
and Sarah Louise Bostick from Cleveland County North Carolina. The family has
been in Cherokee County South Carolina since the late 1890s.

Shull. They are kids of Walter Cleveland Putnam who was alone, but said
married, in York County in 1930. Walt Senior is a son of William Cleveland and
Carrie Putman from there. Young Walter was born in Columbia March 19, 1924 and
will die right here June 27, 2011. He will marry Ruby Ellis Stoudemeyer
here October 28, 1950. She is a daughter of George Zachariah Stoudemeyer and Alberta Eargle
and was born here June 2, 1927 and will die here in Columbia February 7, 2005.
Walter and Virginia are still right here in 1950. And their dad Walter Senior
is too.

18 GA and lives with his mother Rochelle Shivers 39 GA who has remarried to
Augustus Brown 39 SC. Rochelle was married to Edward Owen Putman in Spaulding
County Georgia in 1920 and had Charles in 1922 and then they divorced. Edward
married Carrie Lou Ashley and they moved to Orange County Florida and
were there in 1930 and will be through 1945.

Forrest 12 SC. They were married here September 3, 1925. Alexander Gordon
Putman is a son of William Alexander Putman and his second wife Evie S. Hughes.
He was with his widowed mom here in 1920 and here with Elizabeth and the kids
in 1930. William was a son of Samuel Evans Putman and Artie Hardin from Cleveland
County and then Rutherford County, North Carolina.

in a cotton mill of course. She says she was in the same house in 1935 and I
have no ideas as to her husband.

67 NC and widowed. She is Robena Emeline Brock widow of Edward Putman from
Haywood County North Carolina. They were married in 1890 and he died in 1897.
She was there up till the 1920s. She is living with her married daughter Vera
28 NC and her husband John T. Kirby 44 SC. She was living with them here in
1930 as well.

Fred looks to be the son of William Guy Putman from Laurens County. They both

they were in 1920 and then here in 1930. He is widowed here in 1950.

cotton mill. He is a doffer and she a spinner. Zena was born October 5, 1905 and will call it quits here on April 8, 1995. She is widowed here in
1950 and has Broadus with her then.
EVERETT PUTMAN Spartanburg, Spartanburg County
He is a weaver in a cotton mill and is 26 SC, his wife Mildred 24 and he has a stepson Jackie Grubbs 8 SC from Millie’s first marriage. Everett Posey Putnam is a son of William Larry Putman and Minnie Simmons from Laurens County and then here in Spartanburg. He was born August 29, 1912. He married Mildred Grubbs July 18, 1930 in Laurens County. He will die October 15, 1947 back in Laurens County.

He is 30 SC and his wife Adgelee Godfrey is 25 SC and they have Adelia 2 SC. Stephen Fred Putman is a son of William Larry Putman and Minnie Simmons from Laurens County and then here in Spartanburg. He was born August 29, 1909 in Laurens County. He married Adgelee Godfrey there October 1, 1936. He will die September 11, 1964. Adgelee was born September 7, 1910 in Laurens County and will die there August 25, 1989.

his mom was born in 1859 and died in Rutherford County July 9, 1928. He and Ola

Wolfe and Elizabeth Camp. She was born in South Carolina March 18, 1917 and
will die in Spartanburg June 19, 1906.

Donald 11 SC. He is a son of George Washington Putman and Addie Jane Mountjoy
from here. George is a son of Martin Toliver Putman and Ann Catherine Wilkes
from Rutherford County North Carolina. Ralph was born in Laurens County
September 2, 1906 and will die here in Spartanburg February 11, 1977. Naomi was
born here December 13, 1910 and will die here December 21, 1996. They were
married in Woodruff, Spartanburg County May 17, 1925.

He is 47 NC and his wife Mamie Sue Powell 43 SC. He is a son of Samuel W. Putman and Jane Holcombe from Rutherford County North Carolina. He was born June 18, 1892. Mamie is a daughter of David and Ida Powell and was born in Duncan South Carolina December 21, 1896 and will die in Spartanburg February 22, 1971. Tom will die here February 7, 1960. They both work in a cotton mill. He is a second hand and she is a spooler.

folks works in a cotton mill. His wife Minnie Lee Simmons is 50 SC and they
have Billie 20 SC, Benjamin 17 SC and Kenneth 7 SC. Also here is their married daughter Vera Kate
Peace 24 SC and her daughters Jimmie 2 and Linda 1. He is Lawrence William
Putman a son of Stephen Perry Putman and Martha Susan Lovejoy from Laurens
County where they had been up until 1930. He’ll be here till he dies May 16,
1960. Minnie will die September 4, 1949.

peace/police officer for the city. His wife Lillian Sprouse is 45 SC and they
have McDuffie Jr. 22 SC, Donald Gregg 19 SC, Elise 16 SC, Dorothy Dix 14 SC and
William Frank 10 SC. He is a son of William Dogan Putman and Sarah Knight. His
widowed mom was with them here in 1920, but has died June 21, 1930.
William Ralph is a son of the above Larry. He is a weaver in a cotton mill and is 32 SC. His wife Ruth Lawrence is 28 SC and fills batteries at the cotton mill. They have William Ralph Junior 9 SC. He was born June 1, 1904. He married Ruth Lawrence on February 19, 1927. He will die here in Woodruff on December 29, 1975. Ruth will die here January 18, 2005.
DOROTHY PUTMAN Sumter Township, Sumter County
She is
32 SC single and lives with her married sister Nell 36 SC and her husband J.
Shirley Parker 47 SC. They are daughters of William Butler Putman and Martha
Dell Garrett. They were born in Laurens County and their folks died in 1912 and
1915 and they were in an orphanage in 1920 born in Laurens County and around
someplace in 1930. Dorothy was born June 29, 1905 and will die in Greenville
October 226, 1979. She married Harvey Williams June 30, 1937, but guess it
didn’t work out or something

He is 30 NC and is a plumber at a textile mill, his wife Pearl Meadows is 32 NC and a spinner at the mill. They have about a kid every other year starting with Wanda 9 NC, Richard 7 NC, Merle Oveda a daughter 6 NC, John J. 4 SC, Raymond Edward 2 SC. He is a son of John S. Putnam and Harriet Idelia Rippy and was born in Cleveland County North Carolina June 12, 1909 and will die here in Union County November 30, 1972. He married Pearl up there in 1930. She was born September 17, 1908 in Madison County North Carolina and will die here in Union County October 28, 1984.
